How romantic would it be to have dinner outside under a candle lit chandelier? Pretty great right? That’s not exactly what I envisioned when I purchased this chandelier, it just sort of morphed in to this idea. Now for the romantic dinner to take place, hmmm is it still romantic if the kids are there?? 😉
I bought an old brass 90’s ish light fixture for $5 from my local Re Store. It looked like this when I started.
I removed the brass rings and glass shades. The arms on the light fixture were pointing down, I wanted them up like a traditional chandelier. It was relatively easy to turn the arms the way I wanted them. I didn’t worry about damaging the wiring inside, as I wouldn’t be using the wires anymore. Then using wire cutters I sniped off the wires flush with the top of the fixture.
I gave the chandelier a light sanding, sprayed two coats of primer and two coats of spray paint. When dry I tied some sisal rope to the top ring so it could be hung.
I added some white candles I found at the dollar store, in the old bulb sockets. Then grabbed the step ladder and proceeded to hang it from my tree. Did I mention I hate climbing ladders, the ground was really uneven and to have the chandelier hang correctly required some crazy acrobatic like balancing moves? And then my neighbour stops by and says “Why is there a chandelier in your tree? That’s weird!” Yep, fun times!
The chandelier is absolutely delightful in the tree. 🙂 I’m enjoying your site! I pinned your dishwasher tip and well, here I am many minutes later, enjoying all of your projects. Thanks for sharing them!
Thank you Shelley for your sweet comments.
