Today I’m sharing my recipe for Himalayan salt scrub. A few months ago my daughter brought home a salt scrub from one of my favorite natural bath and beauty places. It smelled absolutely amazing! It was infused with grapefruit and lime extracts. It smelled so good I threatened to steal it from her and use it my self. And then I read the ingredients on the back, I was horrified to find that they had used some pretty nasty preservatives in it.
I realize that some preservatives are required to keep products from going bad. However the preservatives used in this scrub were the some of the worst ones, the ones we are told to stay away from. I found it very odd that a company who totes using all natural ingredients in their products would use something so toxic in this scrub. There are lots of natural non toxic or less toxic preservatives to use, why these? And to top it off, all of the other ingredients are shelf stable and some would be considered natural preservatives.
So what is a girl to do? Get in the kitchen and whip up a batch yourself! And that is what I did, I grabbed ingredients from my cupboards and stared mixing away. I had most things on hand, I like to make things my self. All the ingredients can be bought at your local grocery store or health food store. This is what I came up with, a yummy smelling scrub that leaves your skin smooth and soft.
Recipe:
2 tbsp. Himalayan Salt finely ground
1/4 cup Sea or table Salt finely ground
2 tbsp. Coconut oil
1 tsp. Avocado oil
1/2 tsp. Vitamin E oil
2-3 drops each Lime and Grapefruit essential oils
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, let sit for a few mins. If mixture is a too runny add more sea or table salt to thicken it up a bit. Can be used as a face or body scrub. To use wet skin then gently rub scrub on face or body, rinse and wash as normal.
